Gosh, a week since our last post!

Bow - reserved
We have been very busy this week. Several of our dogs and puppies that weren't getting much interest with us have been transferred to the Dogs Trust, where there is a waiting list of people looking to adopt. This is great news for them because they get a wider audience and are sure to find their forever home really soon.

Bow is a lurcher boy who is 2 years old and an absolute sweetheart. To find out more about this lad please visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9340.0 Update: Bow had visitors on Sunday who adored him so he is now reserved pending a homecheck.

Here is the lovely Jade. She has been in kennels for some time now but as finally got herself a smashing foster home. Her fosterers say she is a big softy so please forget all you read about Staffies being well 'ard status dogs. Most of them aren't. They used to be known as Nanny dogs because they were so good with people and children.  Jade is showering her fosterers with those famous Staffie kisses and is desperate for a home to call her own. For more information on her please visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9357.0

We were also asked to collect some kittens who were born in someone's shed - and they didn't even own a cat! Luckily Denise at Vale Cat Rescue was on hand to take them and the Cat's Protection volunteers will be heading down to the house soon to set traps to catch the very nervous mother cat so she can be spayed and hopefully rehomed. It wasn't an ideal situation and it's always nice to keep the family together but she was so fearful of humans that no one could get near her. At least the kittens have been rescued. In a few weeks time we may have lost the opportunity to get them because mum would have taken them off elsewhere and there would be 7 nervous cats on the loose.

Well, until next time enjoy your weekend and all of this wonderful weather.

Please remember DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN YOUR CAR. In this heat even with a window open air may not circulate and this could be fatal for your pet.

Paws 4 Tea Dinas Powys

Dave and Rebecca on the cake stall
We would like to say a big thank you to all our supporters who came to our Paws 4 Tea event today.

Our foster carers corner was jam packed with foster dogs and kennel dogs waiting for a second chance in life and we really hope you enjoyed meeting them.

As usual our delicious cake stall was a huge success and Dave and Rebecca did a grand job in running it and, of course, the baking!

Thanks to Leanne and Kaz who worked very hard to get our first area promoting foster carers and hopefully some of you will be going home and filling out those forms and welcoming your first foster dog before too long.
Foster carers wanted

The weather was kind to us too and remained dry - even the sun put in an appearance.

We managed to raise an awesome £447. Thank you.

Some of our kennel dogs

If you think you could foster one of these beautiful dogs and haven't registered with us yet please fill out a foster carer application form (https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dDEtVF9tc2xvQWRxMlZmWFFVWXRaaUE6MA)

Here we have:

Cooper

Lovely lurcher-type boy

Biscuit

Casper

Milo

Theo
They are all looking for their second chance but unless someone offers them a space in a foster home this will not happen. All FPAR dogs undergo a 14-day assessment so we can get to know them and their requirements so if you have what it takes then please get in touch.

New arrivals

Lilly

Sorry, we didn't stop with the cute puppy pictures for long! We have some new arrivals that came into our care this weekend.

First of all there is Lilly (sister of Robbie). She is a 14 week old crossbreed and we're guessing there is labrador in the mix somewhere, although cannot be sure.
To find out more about her please visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9268.0
Rocket

Then we have 9 week old Rocket. He is an absolute sweetheart and loves a cuddle. His pictures really do not do him justice as he is a very handsome chap. We really have no idea what sort of cross he is, but can say he is a cutie (and so's his sister Sparkle), Visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9261.0 to find out more about him.

Sparkle

Sparkle is a 9 week old pup, sister of Rocket. She is a little bundle of energy but also loves cuddles and is very affectionate. Again, we have no idea what she is crossed with and her pictures most certainly do not do her justice. For one, she won't keep still for long enough! For more information on her please visit
http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9262.0

Robbie

This is little Robbie, brother of Lilly. He's a 14 week old crossbreed (with some lab in the mix, we think, but cannot be sure). This handsome boy spent his first night sleeping soundly in his bed and was as quiet as a mouse. For more information on this lovely lad, visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9265.0

Neo
Neo has been with us for a couple of weeks now but we've only just got him into his foster home. He is a very nervous boy and will need an understanding and patient home with another dog to show him the ropes.  He is a 15 week old husky pup and as cute as he looks, he will be hard work when he grows up. Huskies are working dogs and are known to be quite stubborn so a home experienced with this breed would be a benefit. For further information please visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9253.0
Murphy
Murphy is a 18 month old bouncy labrador. He has come back to us because the resident dog couldn't cope with his bounciness. Like most labs he is food orientated so training will not be a problem. He is eager to please and will make a wonderful addition to anyone's family.
For more information visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=8977.0

Kimmie's puppies

Ok, we'll stop with the extra cute puppy pictures! Here are Kimmie's babies. There are three girls and three boys and she is the most devoted mum. To follow how Kimmie and her pups are getting on, please visit http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php?topic=9158.0

Chou Chou

Chou Chou - picture courtesy of the South Wales Echo
You may remember little Chou Chou - a beagle x cross type pup who came to us the other week as part of an unwanted litter.

She went into foster care with Lydia in Cardiff and it wasn't long before Lydia realised things weren't quite right. After taking Chou Chou to the vets and having x-rays done on her front, right leg it became evident that this little pup's leg had been fractured in 2 places and left to heal by itself. The bones were fusing together again but in the wrong places and the injury was beginning to calcify.

Little Chou Chou after the operation
The only thing for little Chou Chou was for the vet to operate on her and today, that's exactly what happened. The vet broke Chou Chou's leg and re-set it in the correct position. She will now have to wear a leg brace - which resembles external scaffolding - for several weeks while the bones fuse together again.

Lydia is looking after Chou Chou and will be nursing her through her recovery, until a forever home can be found for her.

This leaves us with a vet bill of at least £1,000, which is only just the start of things. The after care for this little girl will be a lot too so we are putting out an appeal if anyone can help us.

The South Wales Echo have been kind enough to print a story in their newspaper. Here is the link http://www.walesonline.co.uk/cardiffonline/cardiff-news/2012/05/08/rescued-puppy-chou-chou-needs-a-1-000-operation-can-you-help-91466-30923973/

Lydia set up a Just Giving page at the beginning of the year to raise funds for FPAR. This page has now been updated to raise money for Chou Chou. If you can afford just a little we would be very grateful. The link is to the left of this post 'Lydia's Fundraising Page'. Thank you.
