Good news and bad news

Freddie with his poorly leg
Chou Chou with her leg pins
The good news is that little Freddie, the crossbreed from the pound, has found a lovely foster home so he's out of kennels and starting the journey to his forever home.

The bad news is we noticed that he wasn't putting any weight on his front paw and hasn't been for some time as the nails on that foot were considerably longer. After his foster carer took him to the vets for his vaccinations the vet assessed him and with x-rays discovered that the poor little man has had every toe in his paw broken.

In the vet's opinion this was a deliberate injury and would only have happened if someone stamped on his paw. Freddie would have been in considerable pain for some time. He has to go back to the vets tomorrow to find out the best treatment and currently his leg is in a splint. We are expecting a long and painful course of treatment for Freddie before he gets full use of his paw again.

As usual we will pick up the pieces but funds-wise we're having a rough time of it this year. What with van breakdowns and Chou Chou's major operation and another on the cards for little Freddie...

Chou Chou has had her operation to repair her broken leg - see above. She is slowly having the internal pins removed as the bones fuse together. Luckily she remains with her foster carer while in recovery and although has a forever home lined up will not be able to live there until all of her pins are out. It is expected that she will have to remain in foster care for at least another 3 months so hopefully will gain in more confidence as she recovers. Currently she is terrified of going outside and panic wees at the slightest thing.

If only dogs could talk eh?

Please, please if you can give something, however small, towards either of these babies' vets bills do so via Just Giving http://www.justgiving.com/fourpawsanimalrescue

Many thanks

Happy Jubilee Weekend

It may not be glorious sunshine at the moment, but it is still quite warm so we can enjoy plenty of walks with the dogs and BBQs this weekend given that most of us have a bit of extra time off.

The work of FPAR doesn't stop on Bank Holidays and several of our kennel dogs are being transported to other rescues this weekend. At this time of year when everyone is going on holidays and boarding their dogs,  kennel space becomes in short supply for us so it helps for other rescues to take dogs that we cannot find foster homes for.

Our two beautiful Staffie pups Gloria and Cullen have gone to their new homes this weekend so two lucky families will be enjoying getting to know their new additions.

Preparation continues for the Fonmon Charity Dog Show http://www.fonmoncharitydogshow.com/ which is being held on Bank Holiday Monday. FPAR are calling on all available volunteers as this show is a biggie. There will be a parade for all the rescues involved between 10am and 10.45 to highlight the dogs in our care that need new homes, lots of doggy show classes, fun and games for everyone and more chances to win at the raffle, subject to ticket availability.

Please come along and support us. We would love to see you and so will our foster dogs!
